Born in Winnipeg, Mr. Johnson was raised in a musical family and has been surrounded by music his entire life. He was educated at the University of Manitoba where he completed degrees in both Music and Education.
Mr. Johnson has been actively involved in music education for the past 16 years. He works as an educator, clinician, coordinator, guest conductor and adjudicator developing and nurturing meaningful learning opportunities, encouraging excellence and instilling a culture of passion, integrity and understanding among his students. He spent many years on the Jazz Faculty at IMC-International Music Camp, was the founder and Coordinator of the Manitoba Band Association Selkirk Summer Band Workshop. Mr. “J” as he is affectionately known is recognized for passionately sharing his love of music and the arts while inspiring students to realize the joy of music, human emotions, hard work, creativity and curiosity.
Mr. Johnson is a member of the Winnipeg Musicians Association Inc. Local 190, A. F. of M., the International Association of Jazz Educators and continues to perform as both a freelance musician, guest artist and lead trumpet player for both the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and the Ron Paley Big Band. Jeff is very pleased to be back at the Brandon Jazz Festival.
